I always love the #archibaldprize, and this year’s entries and winners were incredible as always. There have been some 90s alternative rock stars that have been captured over the years, none more successful than Bill Leak’s portrait of Tex Perkins. Retail in the 90s was competitive as there was more physical stores than ever. Many Australian albums came with bonus discs to entice buyers. Then there were shrink wrapped video and t-shirt packs. Still sealed, I imagine it’s worth a little bit of money to someone?

The more you learn, the more you realise that you don’t know. I love @c.mathieson book on Australian music in the 90s. I didn’t know there was a tie in CD. You really can’t argue with that line up as a one disc overview of the decade. The book seems like it’s out of print, but it’s an essential snap shot of the times. The songs, however, are mostly timeless.

Another album lost to the sands of time. Fini Scad signed to Mushroom, who never quite knew what to do with this Aussie indie scene. They had a massive hit with Coppertone and then went to America to record with a name producer. Wider Screen came out in 1998 but the band broke up shortly after. Who knows what Mushroom was planning for them.
